THE SECRETS OF EMBERWILD by STEPHENIA H. MCGEE

Nora Fenton wants nothing more than to be in charge of her own life - a tall order for a woman 1905. Battling social norms, she fights to pursue a passion of training horses, especially her beloved Arrow. Begrudgingly, she must accept the help of newcomer Silas Cavallero, a man who intrigues her way more than the parade of suitors that she has been forced to entertain. Together Nora and Silas work to prepare Arrow for the races, uncover secrets that further entangle both their lives, and explore a future more wonderful than they could have imagined.
As an equestrian, I was immediately intrigued by this book and overall really enjoyed reading it! This book is reminiscent of one of my favorite older movies - The Man from Snowy River. Jessica and Nora would have certainly been great friends! There was a lot of mystery wrapped up in the story which drove the plot forward. My only critique with this is that I wish the author had made a certain aspect of the mystery less obvious. Nora and Silas were authentic characters and I think fans of the romance genre will really enjoy the journey of these two coming together.
