Flashback Friday - Poetry Hour 1
Updated: Oct 4, 2020
It's flashback Friday (or at least it was when I originally posted this on my old site =D) ! Today I'm highlighting a poem I wrote in high school in 2011.
There's a lot of hurt, anger, hostility, and conflict in this world. We tend to sit around casting judgment on our society, yet do absolutely nothing to change it. Let that end today. Let's choose to no longer be passive observers and instead follow Gandhi's advice and "be the change that [we] wish to see in the world." Together we can hope for something more.
THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING MORE
There has to be something more.
More than despair, anger, war.
There has to be something more.
Why can’t we look out for each other?
Why can’t we love our neighbor, our brother?
There has to be something more.
More than desire, living only for me.
More than indifference, envy, and greed.
Not my problem. Not mine to fix.
There has to be something more.
With every soul that breaks,
My heart aches.
How can it heal?
More than a Band-Aid, more than a pill.
It needs an operation, rehabilitation.
But what can I do? Who am I to lead?
One small act, is that all it needs?
Maybe there’s hope, something above all,
That can make sense of the chaos, the Fall.
There has to be a reason, there has to be a plan.
Am I part of the purpose? Can I lend a hand?
There has to be something more.
If only I could find it. If only I could figure it out.
There has to be something more.
More than hopelessness, lack of faith. Something to relieve.
I still don’t know. I’m still not sure. But I do believe,
There has to be something more.
